Grace
Grace, a license for immorality. Or is it? I was caught by the book I read, “What so Amazing About Grace?” by Philip Yancey.
It’s grievous to know that in some point of our Christian life we abused God’s grace. Questions like, “Why do good?”, “Why love?”, “Why avoid sin?” when in the end, you will be forgiven? God pronounced forgiveness already to future sins so why not maximize the chance and enjoy the world while you still have today.
To those who entertain those thoughts above or the like. May I challenge you to read the book. In case the bookstore near you ran out of stock. May I suggest you read Romans 6-7. I don’t mean to be legalist if giving unsolicited advice gives that impression. I believe legalism where subcultures of Christian faith are drawn, shuns people from really knowing Christ and building relationship with Him.
What I want to convey is, if you know Jesus, and from knowing comes believing in Him, and all these knowledge result to loving Him back. Obedience will just follow. It’ll just come easy. The things that we do that please Him (as I kept telling my friends) are just outpouring of our love for Him. Does this leave me outstanding in the things that I preached? The answer is NO. I am as weak as anyone alive in this planet. But knowing that in Christ I am a new creation, and I want to live that newness that God has given me through His Son.
Yes, forgiveness is granted already. But that is not the whole package why Jesus died for a sinner like me. Knowing that you are forgiven, where does it leave you? That’s the question.
