Conviction… it is defined as “an unshakable belief in something without need for proof or evidence.” It is synonymous to the words like strong belief, creed, or article of faith.
I have been searching in the Bible concordance about conviction. There is no exact verse that mentions or explains what it is… So when Concordance doesn’t work, Google might help. Here is what I found when I googled the word.
Spiritual conviction is not the conscience per se because it is the Holy Spirit that will convict us to things that are not spiritually and morally sound. The conviction of the Holy Spirit is based on the gray areas in life. Let me clarify… the Bible is clear that adultery, drunkenness, stealing, gossiping are considered sin. But smoking is never been stated in the Bible… God’s word is specific… His command is exact… thus you do not need to convince yourself that it is exactly what God wants. But in the case like Smoking, it is the Holy Spirit that will tell you or convict you that it is wrong because the Word of God says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
Another classic situation is… going out with the opposite sex all by yourself… It is not stated in the Bible… But the Holy Spirit will stir up your spirit and will impress in your heart that it is dangerous to go out exclusively because you are courting temptation. Bear in mind that we are commanded to be “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.~ 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)”
Conviction is a gift… a protection provided by the Holy Spirit so you will not fall into the trap of the enemy.

The word "conviction" is not found in the Bible and this is the source of much of the confusion. It is, however, related to two biblical words: convict and convince.Could conviction possibly not aligned with the Word of God? In a way, it could possibly be…because we heard the phrase “worldly conviction”. If ever there is such term, then it means that it is based on the worldly standard.

- The word convict is only used once in the Bible where the men who accused the women of adultery were "convicted by their own conscience" (John 8:9, Job 32:12.; Acts 18:28; 1Corinthians 14:24; Titus 1:9; James 2:9; Jude 15).
