Mind your Own Business♥

Readings: Jos. 7:1-15 2 Sam 11:1-3 Gal. 6: 1-2
Num 32:23 Gen. 3: 6-7 1 Cor 5: 3-13

Privacy is the banner we always raise. We at all times if not sometimes claim for a concealed life. Our affairs are deemed to be “private”. We seclude our activity and strive to be discreet with our own deeds. When our interest is opposite from the norm and beyond the standard, we hurriedly hoist our flag in prints boldly written (as if screaming on its own) “MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!”

But the question is, are our lives really private? Can we really put out of sight our conduct from others? Or when busted, can we simply shrug our shoulders and say “Everyone is doing it?” The bible simply tells us of characters who fell short in God’s glory, disobeyed His commands, or wandered away from God’s path. These people faced the bitter consequences of their actions, not only them, but even family members were affected even to the point of suffering to death from the bad choices they made. (I suggest you read the suggested bible passages above to see what I’m talking about.)

Or if we are not the one concern, is our attitude towards it cold, and at the back of our mind yelps the thought “I don’t wanna be involved about it?” Can we simply walk away with those thoughts and forget about it? To answer these questions, Galatians 6:1-2 says “ Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; {each one} looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” I believe that that command is clear enough. Look at the lives of Josua, Elisha, Nathan to name a few. They confronted Achan, Gehazzi and King David respectively. But how do we correct them? In 1 Tim. 5:1-2, it says “ Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but {rather} appeal to {him} as a father, {to} the younger men as brothers, the older women as mothers, {and} the younger women as sisters, in all purity.”

Before I leave you with the thought, there’s a red thin line between guarding/being mindful of our demeanor from gossiping. Our motive must be right— to bring the person to his senses and walk in the right path and not to destroy his reputation and condemn him to his destruction.

Learning from the verses quoted, I don’t think there is anyone who can dare say “Mind your own business” because after all it is everyone’s business to guard “our own” actions according to what is right and how we are taught in the bible to respond to every situation. For our sake and family member’s sake, we don’t want to experience the wrath of God.
