Food
Read John 4:31-34
Food is essential. The physiological need that requires us to satisfy otherwise we go starving, malnourished, worst dying. Jesus too needs to eat to feed his body. But Jesus looks beyond the physical hunger. His greatest satisfaction does not lie on the physical food. In verse 34, he said “My food… is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” As I read these verses starting from verse 31… I am in awe of Him. Amazing truth! The gratification of Jesus is to do God’s purpose for Him.
I am humbled by this truth. Being a child of God, our business is to do His will for us. But sometimes, we end up doing what we want…that somehow doesn’t give us fulfillment…things that have no value. We settle to do stuff that doesn’t glorify our Maker.
Like Jesus, doing the things of God is essential for us not only because we bring the name of the Lord. But it meets our deepest spiritual need. It is also for our own good. And not doing it makes us spiritually malnourished…worst hollow or dying.
My prayer for myself is to have that attitude of Jesus in doing the will of the Father. That it will be my only priority. That it will become an inner need and not a task that has to be fulfilled on a given time and after awhile can be abandoned anytime I want it.
